1966–1978

Our company’s roots trace back to Fairfield’s first resort in Arkansas, establishing a foundation of leadership in vacation ownership. In 1974, the launch of RCI created the first vacation exchange network and transformed how members shared travel opportunities. By the late 1970s, a commitment to quality, community, and service began shaping a mission centered on putting the world on vacation.

1979–1991

The late 1970s and 1980s brought bold innovation and rapid expansion. Trendwest introduced WorldMark, offering a new model for vacation ownership. Fairfield pioneered a points-based system that redefined how owners accessed and planned their vacations. These milestones strengthened the company’s influence across the leisure travel industry and set the stage for a broader, more diversified future.

1992–2004

The 1990s and early 2000s marked a period of strategic growth and global momentum. RCI became the world’s largest vacation exchange network. A new luxury resort collection elevated the portfolio, and membership continued to expand worldwide. This era reinforced the company’s commitment to better travel experiences and laid the groundwork for a modern, member-focused ecosystem.

2005–2017

This timeframe brought significant evolution across the company’s vacation ownership and membership offerings. The acquisition of WorldMark by Wyndham broadened the club portfolio, and the introduction of Margaritaville delivered a distinctive resort experience. Enhanced internal exchange options increased member flexibility, strengthening the company’s leadership and commitment to delivering memorable vacations in destinations across the globe.

2018–2020

Wyndham Destinations emerged as a standalone public company, separating from the hotel business and strengthening its position as a global leader in vacation ownership. The acquisition of Alliance Reservations Network expanded the company’s technology and distribution capabilities, setting the stage for a broader travel strategy.

2021–2025

The acquisition of the Travel + Leisure brand marked a major shift toward a multi-brand travel strategy. Travel + Leisure GO launched as a subscription travel club, and the company expanded its portfolio with Sports Illustrated Resorts, Accor Vacation Club, and Eddie Bauer Adventure Club — ushering in a new era focused on diversified, high-quality travel experiences.
